Downtown sidewalk sales, boulevard ribbon cutting  July 11, 2020
250 gallons of handsanitizer given away

COVID-19 temporarily closed several Coon Rapids retailers the spring of 2020 and altered the way they do business. Downtown now is up and running again and Main Street Coon Rapids (MSCR) welcomed everyone back downtown for all your shopping, dining and service needs. A welcome back event was held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 that included an old favorite – sidewalk sales.

The day began with a Boulevard Ribbon Cutting at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the completion of the Main Street Boulevard landscaping. Guests wandered through the boulevard for close-up views of the flowers and shadowcasters.

From 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. many downtown businesses hosted sidewalk sales inside and outside of their shops. Restaurants and bars offered lunch and drink specials. Participating businesses included: Brown Bag & Co., Coon Rapids Hardware Hank, Coon Rapids Pharmacy, Chele’s Corner Boutique & Consignment, Nature Ammil, New Hope Bargain Shoppe, Patriot Trainer Fitness, Robyn Edddy’s Zyia & 31 Sales, Serenity Day Spa, Stacy’s Studio & Boutique, The Trading Post, Cady’s, Chuck’s Bar and Grill, Coon Bowl, La Terraza Mexican Restaurant, and Northside Rec.

As they shopped downtown, patrons picked up a BINGO card at one of the participating businesses. When they made a purchase at each business, the cashier checked off their store’s square. When they successfully earned a BINGO, they dropped the card off in the BINGO box located in the center of the Main Street boulevard. Two winners were drawn that day for gift baskets full of Coon Rapids goodies.

To support Coon Rapids retailers and shoppers, Main Street Coon Rapids partnered with POET Biorefinery to provide bottles of hand sanitizer and face masks. A safety station was open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Legion Building. People picked up free bottles of handsanitizer and face masks. They also brought their own empty handsanitizer bottles and POET staff refilled them at no cost. POET had over 250 gallons of handsanitizer for the community.
