Coon Rapids Main Street
Coon Rapids' annual holiday tradition began in 2008 as an evening filled with Christmas shopping and fellowship.
This year’s event promises to once again be a magical experience. In its 13th year, event organizers are adding live reindeer, lighted Christmas parade and drive-in movie to the line-up of family-friendly activities on Saturday, December 5. There will not, however, be a community meal or holiday concerts.
We ask everyone to practice social distancing and wear a mask if that is not possible.

Order Out
While we wish we could partake in a community meal and fellowship, we encourage everyone instead to order a to-go meal from a local restaurant. Support our local eateries every Saturday in December by ordering a meal for yourself, friends and family. Local eatery options: Coon Bowl, Cady’s, Chuck’s Bar and Grill, La Terraza, Frohlich’s SuperValu and the Country Store.
Tis the season
Gifts for good little shoppers
In place of the traditional grand-prize drawings, the Christmas in a Small Town committee has partnered with Santa’s helpers to reward local shoppers with Coon Buck gift certificates this year. His elves will be randomly appearing around Coon Rapids between Thanksgiving and Christmas presenting Coon Bucks to shoppers. Shop local and you may be rewarded.
Mr. and Mrs. Claus
Mr. and Mrs. Claus are unable to greet every child at the Legion this year, but promise they are watching everyone very closely this year. They will make an appearance at the end of the parade, so make sure to watch the parade and wave at your favorite jolly couple.
Elf on the Shelf
Santa Claus notified the Coon Rapids staff that he is sending an “Elf on the Shelf” to watch over our children this year. The elf will move from storefront window to storefront window to keep an eye on our town. We’ll put out a daily Facebook post stating which business the Elf is visiting and encourage everyone to check out the elf. Photos with the elf and posted to the city’s Facebook page are highly recommended to show Santa all the good girls and boys in Coon Rapids.
Pallet Christmas trees
Businesses and organizations will use their creative skills to craft Christmas trees from wooden pallets. Travel around town to view their work and then
click here to vote on your favorite. The winning trees decorators will win prize money. Winners will be announced December 21.
Avenue of Trees and Boulevard
Downtown storefronts will be lit up with festive Christmas trees. Stroll up and down the streets to view the holiday decor. Make sure to drive along the Main Street Boulevard to see the new tree displays there as well.
