With the success of last year’s Movies on Main, Main Street Coon Rapids has scheduled three drive-in movies for 2021.

“It was so much fun putting together an old-fashioned drive-in movie in downtown Coon Rapids last year, that we just had to bring it back this year,” said Main Street Coon Rapids Promotions Chair Natasha Adams.

Co-hosted with the Coon Rapids Public Library, organizers will show “The Sandlot” Saturday, May 8., “Raya and the Last Dragon on Saturday, June 12 and the non-animated version of “The Lion King” on Saturday, August 14.

“The 22’x 15’ screen will be hoisted 40 feet in the air again this year, making it a great outdoor experience,” said Adams. “Last year we had a lot of people set up in the back of their SUVs or pickups. Guests are welcome to watch the movies from the comfort of their vehicles or in lawn chair.”

Shows will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the Hartung Town Parking Lot. Parking attendants will allow vehicles to enter the Hartung parking lot between 5th and 6th Avenues south of Main Street at 8:00 p.m. Enter the lot from the west on 6th Avenue.

Sound will be broadcast via FM transmitters, so make sure to tune in your vehicle’s radio or bring an FM radio. Concessions will be available at Chuck’s Bar & Grill, Coon Bowl, Frohlich’s Supervalu, Jenna’s Tattooed Confections and Nature Ammil. Restrooms will be open behind the Main Street Coon Rapids office (406 Main Street). Doors are on the east side of the building and are accessible through the Memorial Park on Main Street.
