MSCR congratulates CR-B graduates with banners, parade and gifts
Posted on Friday April 30, 2021
You can’t get a much bigger display of congratulations than mounting 60” by 30” banners on light poles. Which is exactly what Main Street Coon Rapids (MSCR) did for the Coon Rapids-Bayard High School graduates.

Thirty banners, one for each graduate, were designed with students’ photos and names and then hung on downtown light poles by the Coon Rapids Municipal Utilities staff. They will remain downtown for six weeks and then presented to the graduates as a keepsake.

“We wanted to support our CR-B graduates and celebrate their accomplishments. They are an important part of our community, and we hope that these banners will show them how much they are valued,” stated MSCR Organization Chair Quinn Wurzer.

Wurzer and her task force implemented the banner project in 2020 when the COVID-19 Pandemic abruptly ended the school year and delayed the 2020 graduation. The students and community reacted so warmly to the project, that MSCR decided to make it an annual project.

Thanks to last year’s overwhelming financial support, Wurzer’s group was able to use unspent donations from last year to pay for this year’s banners. In addition to individual donations, the bulk of the funds came from Karl Chevrolet Stuart and New Way Ford who each donated $2,000 to the project.

In addition to the banners, MSCR has organized a Scoop the Loop CR-B graduate night, Wednesday, May 12. MSCR is hosting a Scoop the Loop cruise every week in May, but will dedicate the May 12 ride to the community’s graduates. For the first half hour (7:30-8:00 p.m.) the community is asked to park their cars in the side angle parking on Main Street downtown with their flashers on and congratulatory posters hung on vehicles. The CR-B graduates will parade around Main Street in the backs of pickups, in convertibles or in golf carts so everyone can see their smiling faces.

Finally, MSCR organization team prepared handwritten congratulatory cards with Coon Buck gift certificates for each graduate. The graduates will receive the gifts during graduation week.

“We want to congratulate each student on his/her graduation. This is the time to celebrate all the hard work you’ve put into your education,” said Wurzer. “Near, far or wherever life takes you, your community at home is proud of all you have achieved. Best wishes on your next adventure!”
