Design and placement decision makers needed
Bike racks and benches are slated to be added to downtown Coon Rapids this summer thanks in part to two Community Foundation of Carroll County grants. The awards were announced by the foundation January 31. Coon Rapids will receive $1,540 for bike racks and $4,000 for streetscaping. City leaders are choosing to use the streetscaping funds to purchase benches for Main Street. Additional funds are being sought for these projects. In fact, the Coon Rapids class of 1980 plans to make a donation towards bike racks in memory of their classmate Jeanine Bowman, who passed away February 11. To make a contribution to either of these installments, contact Community Coordinator Katie Mason (712-999-4769 or [email protected]).
Mason received approval from the City Council Monday to create a citizen committee to decide the design and placement of the new items. One suggestion is to place bike racks in a few center parking spots. Mason is asking for volunteers to serve on the benches and bike racks committee to contact her by March 18.
