History and Accomplishments
Since it was formed in 1999 the Coon Rapids Development Group (CRDG) has played a role in the growth of existing
businesses and the establishment of new businesses in Coon Rapids. These businesses include Macke Ford, Cruise Planners, POET Biorefining, ET Video, Coon RapidsChiropractic, Lewis Chiropractic, and Hobby Farms.
The CRDG worked closely with the City Council, Coon Rapids Municipal Utilities and other organizations to develop two new residential subdivisions. These developments included over 20 new residential lots of which only a few remain.
The group has recently begun exploring the possibility of initiating a third residential development project.
The CRDG was a co-sponsor of the Coon Rapids - Whiterock Great Places Initiative. This initiative, as described elsewhere on this website, built on our strengths to make Coon Rapids an ever greater place to visit, live or run a business. Several CRDG projects were part of the initiative including rural tourism and micro-enterprise development, streetscaping, and fostering public art.We continue to support great places related initiatives through our involvement with "Creating Great Places" a local non-profit.
The CRDG is lead by President, Mark Thomas and a board of directors. The board supports both standing and ad-hoc committees. The committees support residential and commercial development, new business attraction, community events, welcoming new residents, community enhancement and art projects, and community and regional recreation projects. The primary focuses of the board are improving economic vitality and our quality of life.
